Abstract

The hadiths of the Prophet SAW serve as a leading source of knowledge and guidance for life, including in the matter of infectious diseases. For instance, there is a hadith that mentions the epidemic of a contagious disease, of which the Prophet SAW said, "When you meet a person inflicted by leprosy, you should run (stay away) just as when you come across a lion" (HR Bukhari). The guidance brought by Rasulullah SAW should be used as a guide and approach in facing the challenges of Covid-19 pandemic. This is because matters related to epidemics or infectious diseases, such as tha’un, had occurred during the time of the Prophet SAW and had been recorded by the Prophet SAW through several hadiths of the Prophet. Therefore, the present study extracted and compiled the hadiths that can be used as a guide in dealing with infectious diseases. In carrying out the study, the hadiths that have the word "waba’" were extracted from Sahih Bukhari. In addition, based on the Semantic Field Theory (SFT), the hadiths that are related to the word "waba’" were also extracted. Next, the extracted hadiths were analyzed to identify the approach of the Prophet SAW when facing with infectious diseases. This study is qualitative in nature using the thematic analysis method. The findings of the study show that the approach taken by the Prophet SAW is a holistic approach that includes physical, mental, and spiritual aspects.
